How To Reach Out To Recognize More Frequently

With our virtual work from home workforce, it is so essential to connect with one another.

What I can tell you is that the strongest leading indicator to ensure that recognition happens is to reach out to people you work with and truly connect with them. It’s through these informal connections that you will discover the great things that they do. From there the sky is the limit as to the number of opportunities you will have for giving recognition. 

But one thing I still get asked is how are you supposed to reach out in order to recognize peers and direct reports more frequently? There are only so many ways to do this.  

Connecting needs to become a regular part of the way we work virtually. And there are also some fun ways to make connections. Pick a number from the suggestions below and try out one of these ideas in the coming week.

How To Do One Thing With Recognition Better Than Anyone Else

I have this great quote on my desk from Jason Goldberg, the American film and television producer, that says, “Find your one thing and do that one thing better than anyone else.” 

This has been my goal with employee recognition in trying to understand meaningful and effective recognition practices and how to make recognition programs amazing.

What It Really Takes to Motivate a CEO

It keeps coming up. How do you motivate and recognize the CEO or senior leaders?

Today I was asked two questions about recognizing senior leaders and executives. Should you use money? And if not, what do you recommend?

The quick answer is “no” to using money as a recognition method. Monetary recognition is a misnomer. Money is strictly a reward and falls under compensation. Enough said. (more…)
